# Cisco SNMP

# Network switch requirements

Wired network data is captured by querying managed access level switches via SNMP.

## Supported devices

* Managed Cisco switches, for example **Cisco Catalyst WS-C3850-48P**
* Meraki access switches, for example **Cisco Meraki MS390**
* Other switches (on request)

## Access information

Locatee requires the setup of a SNMP community on each switch. Both **v2c** and **v3** versions are supported.

### SNMP v2c

* Set up a read-only public community string - more information [here](https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/simple-network-management-protocol-snmp/7282-12.html#anc9).

### SNMP v3

* Security level (Locatee supports `authPriv` and `authNoPriv`)
* Username
* Context name prefix
* Auth protocol
* Auth passphrase
* Privacy protocol
* Privacy passphrase

More information on configuring and verifying SNMPv3 credentials is available [here](https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/snmp/configuration/xe-3se/5700/snmp-xe-3se-5700-book/nm-snmp-snmpv3.pdf) on pages 5-7.

### OIDs

Locatee requires granted access to the following OIDs (for each VLAN):

#### Managed Cisco switches

| OID name | OID description |
| :- | :- |
| `1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3` | dot1dTpFdbTable |
| `1.3.6.1.2.1.17.1.4.1.1` | dot1dBasePort |
| `1.3.6.1.2.1.17.1.4.1.2` | dot1dBasePortIfIndex |

| `1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.46.1.6.1.1.14` | vlanTrunkPortDynamicStatus |

#### Other switches (Meraki, generic)

| OID name | OID description |
| :- | :- |
| `1.3.6.1.2.1.17` | dot1dBridge |
| `1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2` | ifTable |

# Wireless LAN controller (WLC) requirements

Wireless network data is captured by querying the WLC directly via SNMP.

## Supported devices

Cisco AireOS-based WLCs with version **8.6 or higher**, for example **AIR-CT8510-K9**

> 📘 Cisco IOS XE
>
> Newer IOS XE-based controllers (for example **Cisco Catalyst 9800**) are supported by configuring subscriptions based on GRPC in Dial-Out mode. See more information [here](https://locatee.readme.io/docs/cisco-ios-xe-configuration).

## Access information

Locatee requires the setup of a SNMP community on each WLC.

### SNMP v2c

Set up a read-only public community string - more information [here](https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/simple-network-management-protocol-snmp/7282-12.html#anc9).

### SNMP v3

* Security level (Locatee supports `authPriv` and `authNoPriv`)
* Username
* Context name prefix
* Auth protocol
* Auth passphrase
