# Add new buildings and floors

# Creating a building

> 📘 Geo hierarchy
>
> Make sure that all required geo hierarchy entries exist before creating the building. See [this page](https://locatee.readme.io/docs/configure-geo-hierarchy) for more information.

Go to **Admin → Buildings**, click on the **+ New** button and fill in the required fields.

> 🚧 Billable metrics
>
> A building's **subscription plan** and **area** count as *billable metrics*.
>
> Introducing or modifying them will alter the scope of your Locatee subscription, and might have an effect on the amount charged on your service fee.
>
> Please contact your Locatee project manager for more information.

| Field | Description |
| :- | :- |
| **Building name** | Name of the building, as it should be displayed in Locatee Analytics |
| **Subscription plan** | *Portfolio Insights*, *Advanced Portfolio Insights* or *Workplace Operations* |
| **Area** | Net internal area (NIA) of the building |
| **Geo entry** | The parent geo level entry of your building. For example, if your building is in Chicago, which belongs to the United States, then choose United States from the list. |
| **Site** | The name of the lowest geo level entry that this building should belong to (city or similar). If none exists, tick the **Add the building as a new site** box to create a new one. |
| **Address** | Address of the building. Click **Confirm** to validate the address. |

Click **Create Building** to complete the process.

### Building setup

Go to **Building Setup**, and fill in the following fields:

| Field | Description |
| :- | :- |
| **Capacity** | Number of available seats in the building. Leave as *Automatic* if the building is in the Workplace Operations plan. |
| **Target** | Target utilisation level of the building. |
| **Working hours** | Office hours for the building. |

Click on **Update Building** to save changes.

# Creating a floor

> 📘 Portfolio Insights
>
> For buildings in the Portfolio Insights plan, this step is not required.

Open the newly created building, go to **Floors** then click on the **New Floor** button:

Fill in the **Name** and **Level** of the floor, then click **Create**. Repeat for all floors in the building.

The floor plans will be prepared and processed by Locatee's CAD design team. See next page for more information.
