Tango Lease is the system of record for everything that happens to a real-estate lease after it is signed. You abstract the lease into Tango, set up its financial obligations, generate rent and recurring costs each period, run lease accounting under ASC 842 and IFRS 16, reconcile expenses with landlords, and report on the whole portfolio — without leaving the platform. If you are new here, the Quickstart walks you through generating rent for your first lease end-to-end in about fifteen minutes. If you want the mental model first, Understanding leases explains how Tango treats leases as living objects rather than static records.

How a lease moves through Tango

Every lease in Tango follows the same arc: it gets abstracted, activated, operated on each period, occasionally amended, and eventually renewed or terminated. The capabilities you will use in the platform map directly to the stages below. For the full story — what each stage means, what changes between them, and which roles act in each — see Lease lifecycle.

Who Tango Lease is for

Four roles work in Tango Lease day to day. You may wear more than one hat.

Real estate managers

Abstract new leases, track critical dates and options, and keep the portfolio inventory current.

Lease accountants

Run classification tests, generate and post journal entries, recalculate schedules on lease changes, and produce ASC 842 and IFRS 16 disclosures.

Operations and finance

Generate rent rolls each period, manage payments and one-time adjustments, and reconcile CAM and operating expenses at year-end.

System administrators

Configure users and permissions, account coding defaults, percentage-rent and reconciliation rules, and approval workflows.

What you can do

Abstract leases

Capture lease terms, locations, clauses, options, and contacts in one structured record.

Generate rent

Produce payment records for one lease or the entire portfolio in a single action.

Run lease accounting

Classify leases, build schedules, recalculate on changes, and post journal entries.

Track critical dates

Surface expirations, options, and rent changes before they become a problem.

Reconcile expenses

Settle CAM, operating expenses, and percentage-rent reconciliations with landlords.

Build reports

Use the standard report catalog or the Query Builder to slice the portfolio any way you need.

Get started

We recommend working through these pages in order. Each one builds on the one before it, and together they cover roughly what a new Tango Lease user needs to know in their first week.
